Jane Storey is a visual artist who has painted the landscape in Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon. She has a Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Guelph and has attended a residency at the Banff Centre for Fine Arts. Jane has painted landscapes in France and Bali and has participated in Art Workshops at Emma Lake and Red Deer College. She participated in Created at the Canyon in the summer of 2021. Jane is a member of Arts Underground, and had solo shows in September 2020, and May 2024.
Jane is primarily a plein-air painter, demonstrating a deep connection to her surroundings. Her preferred medium is oil on canvas. She will paint during all seasons; the changing skies and light effects are always a new and exciting challenge. Plein Air paintings have more life and capture the beauty of the landscape. Every brushstroke directly responds to colours, values, shapes, and natural light. She is always happy to be outdoors painting!
Her primary influences are Cezanne and the Group of Seven. Seeing these artist’s works in person reinforced the idea that being out in nature can inspire great art. Jane’s paintings capture the essence and beauty of the landscape with a strong composition, contrasting values, and beautiful colour.
